Taiwanese Vibo Telecom, Tecom to Form WiMAX JV
June 01, 2007
Taiwanese 3G mobile communication services provider Vibo Telecom announced that it plans to forge a joint venture with Taiwanese telecommunications and network equipment provider Tecom, aiming to bid for one of Taiwan's six regional WiMAX licenses, reportedly to be issued in June this year by Taiwan's NCC (National Communications Committee). Vibo and Tecom are expected to hold 45% and 55% stakes respectively in the venture, the name of which is yet to be determined. Leveraging Tecom's strengths in WiMAX base stations solutions and Vibo's in 3G services, this venture is expected to be capitalized at NT$1 billion (US$30.3 million; US$1 = NT$33.0) initially.
